The Marking App

Groups

Shared workspaces where an entire marking team works from the same comment banks.

What groups are for

A group is a shared workspace. Folders and pages created inside a group are visible to all group members - there's no need to share pages individually. This makes groups the right choice for a marking team where everyone should have access to the same comment banks automatically.

Your personal workspace and any group workspaces are listed in the workspace switcher at the top of the app. Switch between them at any time.

Creating a group

  1. Open the workspace switcher and choose Create group.

  2. Give the group a name (e.g. the department, course, or team name), choose an icon and colour to identify it in the switcher, and select a plan.

  3. Click Create. You become the group's first admin.

Inviting people

From inside the group, open Settings (admin only) and go to the People tab. There are two ways to add members:

  • Invite by email - search for the person's email address, choose their role, and click Invite. They receive an email with a link to join the group.

  • Invite link - generate a shareable link that anyone can use to join the group. Useful for inviting a large marking team at once. You can revoke the link at any time.

Member roles

Every group member has one of three roles:

  • Admin - full access. Can create and delete folders and pages, invite and remove members, change roles, and manage group settings.

  • Editor - can add, edit, and delete comments and notes on any page. Cannot manage members or settings.

  • Viewer - read-only access. Can copy comments but cannot make changes. Suitable for external moderators or senior markers who just need oversight.

Admins can change a member's role or remove them from the People tab.

Tip: Give tutors the Editor role and casual markers the Viewer role. Tutors can curate the bank; casual markers can use it without accidentally editing comments.

Importing personal folders into a group

If you already have comment banks in your personal workspace, you can bring them into a group. From the group's home screen, choose Import folders and select the folders you want to copy across. The original folders remain in your personal workspace - the import creates copies inside the group.

Group settings

Admins can access Settings from the group header to rename the group, change its icon or colour, manage the subscription plan, and view usage. The group can be dissolved from settings - this permanently deletes all group folders, pages, and comments.

Note: Group features require a paid plan. The plan is set per group - each group you create has its own subscription.
